{"id":518,"date":"2015-02-05T19:43:41","date_gmt":"2015-02-05T18:43:41","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.ifla.org\/literacy-reading\/?p=518"},"modified":"2015-02-05T19:43:41","modified_gmt":"2015-02-05T18:43:41","slug":"ict-program-for-african-universities","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.ifla.org\/literacy-reading\/2015\/02\/05\/ict-program-for-african-universities\/","title":{"rendered":"ICT program for African universities"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"x_MsoNormal\"><b><span style=\"font-size: medium\">Enhancing librarians\u2019 ICT skills for research enablement in African universities: a Carnegie-funded CPD programme<\/span><\/b><\/p>\n<p class=\"x_MsoNormal\"><span style=\"font-size: medium\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"x_MsoNormal\"><span style=\"font-size: medium\">Applications for the fourth intake of the Carnegie-funded Continuing Professional Development (CPD) programme, which is aimed at enhancing ICT skills for research enablement in African universities opened on <b>1 February 2015<\/b> and closes on <b>13 March 2015<\/b>.\u00a0The The programme will begin on <b>23 May<\/b> <b>2015<\/b> and ends on <b>20 June 2015.<\/b> Academic librarians and LIS faculty in Ghana, Nigeria, South Africa, Tanzania and Uganda are eligible to apply for admission to this programme. Eight four-week training sessions will take place over a period of three years. 32 participants will be selected for each intake.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"x_MsoNormal\"><span style=\"font-size: medium\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"x_MsoNormal\"><span style=\"font-size: medium\">This four-week residential training programme with both practical (70%) and theoretical (30%) components will cover the following <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"x_MsoNormal\"><span style=\"font-size: medium\">topics:<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"x_MsoNormal\"><span style=\"font-size: medium\"><span lang=\"EN-GB\">1.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <\/span><span lang=\"EN-GB\">Setting the context: Libraries, ICTs and research\u00a0 <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"x_MsoNormal\"><span style=\"font-size: medium\"><span lang=\"EN-GB\">2.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <\/span><span lang=\"EN-GB\">Leadership and innovation <\/span> <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"x_MsoNormal\"><span style=\"font-size: medium\"><span lang=\"EN-GB\">3.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <\/span><span lang=\"EN-GB\">Information literacy<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"x_MsoNormal\"><span style=\"font-size: medium\"><span lang=\"EN-GB\">4.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <\/span><span lang=\"EN-GB\">Social media for research discoverability in an academic environment <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"x_MsoNormal\"><span style=\"font-size: medium\"><span lang=\"EN-GB\">5.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <\/span><span lang=\"EN-GB\">Mobile technology and mobility <\/span> <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"x_MsoNormal\"><span style=\"font-size: medium\"><span lang=\"EN-GB\">6.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <\/span><span lang=\"EN-GB\">Managing and organising information <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"x_MsoNormal\"><span style=\"font-size: medium\"><span lang=\"EN-GB\">7.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <\/span><span lang=\"EN-GB\">Personal Information Management <\/span> <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"x_MsoNormal\"><span style=\"font-size: medium\"><span lang=\"EN-GB\">8.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <\/span><span lang=\"EN-GB\">Open Scholarship and Open Science \u2013 Publishing <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"x_MsoNormal\"><span style=\"font-size: medium\"><span lang=\"EN-GB\">9.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <\/span><span lang=\"EN-GB\">Open Scholarship and Open Science \u2013 Institutional Repositories <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"x_MsoNormal\"><span style=\"font-size: medium\"><span lang=\"EN-GB\">10. <\/span><span lang=\"EN-GB\">Open Scholarship and Open Science \u2013 Understanding and using research data management<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"x_MsoNormal\"><span style=\"font-size: medium\"><span lang=\"EN-GB\">11. <\/span><span lang=\"EN-GB\">Digitisation<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"x_MsoNormal\"><span style=\"font-size: medium\"><span lang=\"EN-GB\">12. <\/span><span lang=\"EN-GB\">Evaluating website architecture<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"x_MsoNormal\"><span style=\"font-size: medium\"><span lang=\"EN-GB\">13. <\/span><span lang=\"EN-GB\">Cloud services and storage<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"x_MsoNormal\"><span style=\"font-size: medium\"><span lang=\"EN-GB\">14. <\/span><span lang=\"EN-GB\">Virtual research environments<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"x_MsoNormal\"><span style=\"font-size: medium\"><span lang=\"EN-GB\">15. <\/span><span lang=\"EN-GB\">The next generation librarian <\/span> <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"x_MsoNormal\"><span lang=\"EN-GB\"><span style=\"font-size: medium\">\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"x_MsoNormal\"><span style=\"font-size: medium\">This is a fully funded programme which will take place in Pretoria, South Africa. The funding covers books and other academic expenditures, flights, accommodation, and a daily stipend while in Pretoria. All participants are expected to reside in the accommodation provided in Pretoria for the duration of the programme.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"x_MsoNormal\"><b><span style=\"font-size: medium\">\u00a0<\/span><\/b><\/p>\n<p class=\"x_MsoNormal\"><b><span style=\"font-size: medium\">Grant exclusions:<\/span><\/b><\/p>\n<p class=\"x_MsoNormal\"><span style=\"font-size: medium\">\u00b7\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Visa applications, personal expenses (for example medicine, laundry, phone calls, etc.) <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"x_MsoNormal\"><span style=\"font-size: medium\">\u00b7\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 ICT equipment such as laptops, modems, internet access top-ups etc.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"x_MsoNormal\"><span style=\"font-size: medium\">\u00b7\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Travel to and from the airport in your home country<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"x_MsoNormal\"><b><span style=\"font-size: medium\">\u00a0<\/span><\/b><\/p>\n<p class=\"x_MsoNormal\"><span style=\"font-size: medium\"><b>Application for the third intake closes on 13 March 2015. <\/b>No late applications will be considered.
