AARI is the nation\u2019s first and oldest event dedicated to diversity in literature. It was established in 1990 by the Black Caucus of the\u00a0<strong>National Council of Teachers of English<\/strong>\u00a0(NCTE) to make literacy a significant part of\u00a0<strong>Black History Month<\/strong>. Although most participants won\u2019t be able to gather in person to celebrate, NCTE encourages schools, libraries, bookstores, and community and professional organizations to host virtual events for this year\u2019s AARI. The\u00a0<strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.bigdealbook.com\/t\/url\/b9cbcd3ca-579a-41ba-b92a-1528578c8b4d\/?_el=https%3A%2F%2Fncte.org%2Fget-involved%2Fafrican-american-read-in-toolkit%2F&amp;ui=none\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">AARI toolkit<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0contains several resources for getting started. With many AARI events moving online, this year\u2019s\u00a0<strong>virtual celebration<\/strong>\u00a0will transcend geographic boundaries.
