In its dual role as research collection and educational community, the Center has a national impact on the future of reading and readers.<\/p>\n<p class=\"x_MsoNormal\">The CCB supports its mission by providing space, staff, and other support to affiliates; housing collections and other research tools; and sponsoring outreach, scholarly conferences, and instructional activities. Affiliates include School and University faculty and academic staff,\u00a0<i>The Bulletin of the Center for Children&#8217;s Books,<\/i>\u00a0and the iSchool\u2019s School Librarian Licensure Program.<\/p>\n<p class=\"x_MsoNormal\">To commemorate its diamond anniversary, the CCB is holding a virtual lecture series featuring iSchool youth services faculty and alumni speaking about the Center\u2019s history and activities, with an emphasis on children\u2019s literature, storytelling, diversity, and literacy as a public health issue. The lectures, which are open to all, will be held at 12:00 p.m. CT. Speakers and presentations will include:<\/p>\n<ul type=\"disc\">\n<li class=\"x_MsoListParagraphCxSpFirst\">February 25: \u201cCENTERED: The Life and Times of a Book Review Journal,\u201d presented by Professor Emerita Betsy Hearne.<\/li>\n<li class=\"x_MsoListParagraphCxSpMiddle\">March 3: \u201cStorytelling: From Story Times to Epistemological Information Divides,\u201d presented by Associate Professor Kate McDowell (MS \u201999, PhD \u201907).<\/li>\n<li class=\"x_MsoListParagraphCxSpMiddle\">March 23: \u201cAdvocacy and Infographics: Doing the Work for Diversity in Youth Literature and Librarianship,\u201d presented by Sarah Park Dahlen (MS \u201909, PhD \u201909), associate professor of library and information science at St. Catherine University.<\/li>\n<li class=\"x_MsoListParagraphCxSpLast\">April 6, \u201cBooks Build Better Brains: Sharing Books as a Public Health Intervention,\u201d presented by Dipesh Navsaria (MS \u201904), pediatrician and medical director of Reach Out and Read Wisconsin.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"x_MsoNormal\">\u201cGiven the focus on the Center\u2019s history, it is especially appropriate that three of the speakers were students of the fourth, longtime CCB director and\u00a0<i>Bulletin<\/i>\u00a0editor Professor Emerita Betsy Hearne,\u201d said Professor and CCB Director Sara L. Schwebel. \u201cThe Center for Children\u2019s Books has been led by a series of remarkable women who enjoyed long associations with the Center and its\u00a0<i>Bulletin<\/i>, including Zena Sutherland, Betsy Hearne, and Deborah Stevenson\u2014all of whom commanded tremendous industry-wide respect in the world of children\u2019s books.\u00a0During the most recent decade, the\u00a0iSchool has welcomed four new youth services faculty members with diverse research interests and disciplinary backgrounds.
