{"id":2256,"date":"2020-05-25T10:12:51","date_gmt":"2020-05-25T08:12:51","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.ifla.org\/lpa\/?p=2256"},"modified":"2020-05-26T12:47:19","modified_gmt":"2020-05-26T10:47:19","slug":"the-10-minute-international-librarian-1-check-out-how-your-country-appears-on-the-library-map-of-the-world","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.ifla.org\/lpa\/2020\/05\/25\/the-10-minute-international-librarian-1-check-out-how-your-country-appears-on-the-library-map-of-the-world\/","title":{"rendered":"The 10-Minute International Librarian #1: Check out how your country appears on the Library Map of the World"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"xxxmsonormal\">If you\u2019re working in a busy library, or providing library and information services in a wider organisation, it can be difficult to take a step back.<\/p>\n<p class=\"xxxmsonormal\">There are so many issues to resolve locally, urgently, that you can easily lose sight of what is going on elsewhere in your town, city or country, let alone globally.<\/p>\n<p class=\"xxxmsonormal\">But faced with challenges, it is empowering to know that you are part of a major and truly global network!<\/p>\n<p class=\"xxxmsonormal\">There are millions of librarians and libraries out there, often dealing with similar issues.<\/p>\n<p class=\"xxxmsonormal\">So for our first 10-Minute International Librarian exercise, check out how your country appears on the <a href=\"http:\/\/librarymap.ifla.org\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">IFLA Library Map of the World<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"xxxmsonormal\">It\u2019s a great way to see how strong the library the field is, and how far our institutions reach \u2013 and so how many librarians there are also with experiences and ideas to share!<\/p>\n<p class=\"xxxmsonormal\">Think about how you can use the data &#8211; both from your own country, and from others, in your own work &#8211; to strengthen your advocacy, to take a wider perspective, to start to think about potential partnerships!<\/p>\n<p class=\"xxxmsonormal\">Good luck!<\/p>\n<p class=\"xxxmsonormal\"><b>This idea relates to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ifla.org\/strategy\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">IFLA Strategy<\/a>!<\/b>\u00a0<em>Strategic Direction 2, Key Initiative 1:\u00a0Produce, communicate and distribute key resources and materials that inspire the profession<\/em><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><em>As we publish more ideas, you will be able to view these using the <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.ifla.org\/lpa\/tag\/10minuteinternationallibrarian\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">#10MinuteInternationalLibrarian<\/a> tag on this blog, and of course on IFLA&#8217;s <a href=\"https:\/\/ideas.ifla.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Ideas Store<\/a>!
