{"id":3037,"date":"2021-04-13T00:32:56","date_gmt":"2021-04-12T22:32:56","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.ifla.org\/lpa\/?p=3037"},"modified":"2021-04-13T00:32:56","modified_gmt":"2021-04-12T22:32:56","slug":"the-10-minute-international-librarian-47-reread-the-sustainable-development-goals","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.ifla.org\/lpa\/2021\/04\/13\/the-10-minute-international-librarian-47-reread-the-sustainable-development-goals\/","title":{"rendered":"The 10-Minute International Librarian #47: (Re)read the Sustainable Development Goals"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>It\u2019s clear \u2013 sometimes high-level policy documents can seem a long way away from day-to-day work.<\/p>\n<p>They deal in big ideas and big concepts, and can feel too much to do much about on your own.<\/p>\n<p>At the same time, they can also offer an opportunity to think into the long term, as well as understand the ideas \u2013 and words \u2013 that preoccupy those in power.<\/p>\n<p>As such, they can be a motivator for action, as well as a tool for advocacy.<\/p>\n<p>There are few better examples than the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) \u2013 17 high level objectives, running over 15 years.<\/p>\n<p>While the overall 2030 Agenda, set out in a <a href=\"https:\/\/sdgs.un.org\/2030agenda\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">UN Resolution from 2015<\/a>, comes to over 30 pages, the <a href=\"https:\/\/sdgs.un.org\/goals\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">goals<\/a> themselves are easy to read and understand.<\/p>\n<p>So for our 47<sup>th<\/sup> 10-Minute international Librarian exercise, (re)read the Sustainable Development Goals.<\/p>\n<p>You may well already have gone through them once or twice, but it can be surprisingly useful to refresh your memory.<\/p>\n<p>Sometimes you will spot possibilities or connections you did not see before.
