{"id":3140,"date":"2021-08-25T14:39:10","date_gmt":"2021-08-25T12:39:10","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.ifla.org\/lpa\/?p=3140"},"modified":"2021-08-25T14:39:10","modified_gmt":"2021-08-25T12:39:10","slug":"the-10-minute-international-librarian-62-think-how-to-convince-someone-in-a-language-they-understand","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.ifla.org\/lpa\/2021\/08\/25\/the-10-minute-international-librarian-62-think-how-to-convince-someone-in-a-language-they-understand\/","title":{"rendered":"The 10-Minute International Librarian #62: Think how to convince someone (in a language they understand)"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Being able to win people\u2019s support is so often vital in being able to fulfil your mission in a library.<\/p>\n<p>It can be about convincing colleagues to join you in a project, winning the endorsement of a manager inside or outside of the library, or getting changes to wider laws and policies.<\/p>\n<p>This can unlock resources or new possibilities!<\/p>\n<p>But convincing people can take some preparation, both in terms of your message, and how you convey it.<\/p>\n<p>So for our 62<sup>nd<\/sup> 10-Minute International Librarian exercise, think how to convince someone (in a language they understand).<\/p>\n<p>To do this, you need not only to be clear about what it is that you want, but also to reflect a little on how to present it effectively.<\/p>\n<p>What sort of vocabulary would the person you need to convince respond to?
