{"id":495,"date":"2018-04-18T15:50:15","date_gmt":"2018-04-18T13:50:15","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.ifla.org\/lpa\/?p=495"},"modified":"2018-04-21T05:38:14","modified_gmt":"2018-04-21T03:38:14","slug":"ifla-at-the-second-meeting-of-the-forum-of-the-countries-of-latin-america-and-the-caribbean-on-sustainable-development-days-1-and-2-civil-society-meetings","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.ifla.org\/lpa\/2018\/04\/18\/ifla-at-the-second-meeting-of-the-forum-of-the-countries-of-latin-america-and-the-caribbean-on-sustainable-development-days-1-and-2-civil-society-meetings\/","title":{"rendered":"IFLA at the Second meeting of the Forum of the Countries of Latin America and the Caribbean on Sustainable Development &#8211; Days 1 and 2 (Civil Society Meetings)"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Kicking-off a <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ifla.org\/node\/36332\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">full week advocating for libraries and access to information<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> at the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ifla.org\/node\/36332\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Second meeting of the Forum of the Countries of Latin America and the Caribbean on Sustainable Development<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">, IFLA\u2019s delegation in Santiago, Chile, took active part of meetings organised by civil society at the Forum on 16-17 April.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">On 17 April, local organisations representing civil society, <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/mesadearticulacion.org\/\"><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Mesa de Articulaci\u00f3n de Asociaciones Nacionales y Redes Regionales de ONG de Am\u00e9rica Latina y El Caribe<\/span><\/i><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> and <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/accionag.cl\/\"><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Asociaci\u00f3n Chilena de Organismos No Gubernamentales (Acci\u00f3n Internacional)<\/span><\/i><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">, organised <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/mesadearticulacion.org\/noticias\/exitosa-jornada-de-la-sociedad-civil-en-el-marco-del-foro-de-desarrollo-sostenible\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">two side events<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> about relevant issues related to Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) involvement in the UN 2030 Agenda and international cooperation, as well as the status of alternative reporting and their interactions with Voluntary National Reviews (VNRs).<\/span><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-499 size-medium alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.ifla.org\/lpa\/files\/2018\/04\/eclac-forum-side-event-1-300x169.jpg\" alt=\"South-south cooperation and the 2030 Agenda: challenges of civil society in LAC\" width=\"300\" height=\"169\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blogs.ifla.org\/lpa\/files\/2018\/04\/eclac-forum-side-event-1-300x169.jpg 300w, https:\/\/blogs.ifla.org\/lpa\/files\/2018\/04\/eclac-forum-side-event-1-768x432.jpg 768w, https:\/\/blogs.ifla.org\/lpa\/files\/2018\/04\/eclac-forum-side-event-1-1024x576.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/blogs.ifla.org\/lpa\/files\/2018\/04\/eclac-forum-side-event-1.jpg 1862w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Starting in the morning of 17 April, IFLA was present at the side event \u201c<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/foroalc2030.cepal.org\/2018\/en\/programme\/south-south-cooperation-and-2030-agenda-challenges-civil-society-lac\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">South-south cooperation and the 2030 Agenda: challenges of civil society in LAC<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201d where the situation of international cooperation in Chile and the role of CSOs in the 2030 Agenda implementation process and mechanisms was presented. \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">In the afternoon, the \u201c<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/foroalc2030.cepal.org\/2018\/en\/programme\/training-workshop-alternative-reporting\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Training workshop on alternative reporting<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201d was a perfect opportunity to present the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/da2i.ifla.org\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Development and Access to Information (DA2I)<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> report, a contribution from IFLA and <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/tascha.uw.edu\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">TASCHA<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> to the monitoring of the 2030 Agenda by measuring access to information and the libraries\u2019 contribution to achieving sustainable development and the 17 SDGs. The event discussed shadow reporting, including an overview of challenges presented by SDG indicators, and reflections related to financing and CSOs involvement and support.<img decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-500 alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.ifla.org\/lpa\/files\/2018\/04\/eclac-forum-side-event-2-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"Training workshop on alternative reporting\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blogs.ifla.org\/lpa\/files\/2018\/04\/eclac-forum-side-event-2-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/blogs.ifla.org\/lpa\/files\/2018\/04\/eclac-forum-side-event-2-768x576.jpg 768w, https:\/\/blogs.ifla.org\/lpa\/files\/2018\/04\/eclac-forum-side-event-2-1024x768.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/blogs.ifla.org\/lpa\/files\/2018\/04\/eclac-forum-side-event-2.jpg 2016w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The programme of the Forum started officially on 17 April with the \u201c<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/foroalc2030.cepal.org\/2018\/sites\/foro2018\/files\/civil_society_consultation_agenda.-ing_rev3.pdf\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Latin America and the Caribbean civil society consultation prior to the second meeting of the Forum of the Countries of Latin America and the Caribbean on Sustainable Development<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201d (<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/foroalc2030.cepal.org\/2018\/en\/programme\/latin-america-and-caribbean-civil-society-consultation-prior-second-meeting-forum\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">morning<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> and <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/foroalc2030.cepal.org\/2018\/en\/programme\/latin-america-and-caribbean-civil-society-consultation-prior-second-meeting-forum-0\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">afternoon<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> programmes). <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Alicia B\u00e1rcena, Executive Secretary of the United Nations Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC) opened with a speech addressing her views on the current status of the 2030 Agenda in the region, and she stated: \u201cGovernments have stopped talking about the 2030 Agenda (&#8230;) The 2030 Agenda is a priority, a necessity. It\u2019s the only way to battle inequality.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-497\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.ifla.org\/lpa\/files\/2018\/04\/eclac-forum-cs-opening-1024x768.jpg\" alt=\"Opening by Alicia B\u00e1rcena\" width=\"400\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blogs.ifla.org\/lpa\/files\/2018\/04\/eclac-forum-cs-opening-1024x768.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/blogs.ifla.org\/lpa\/files\/2018\/04\/eclac-forum-cs-opening-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/blogs.ifla.org\/lpa\/files\/2018\/04\/eclac-forum-cs-opening-768x576.jpg 768w, https:\/\/blogs.ifla.org\/lpa\/files\/2018\/04\/eclac-forum-cs-opening.jpg 2016w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 400px) 100vw, 400px\" \/> <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">This event was an excellent opportunity for IFLA delegates present on the first days of the Forum: Adriana Cybele Ferrari (FEBAB President, Brazil) and Maria Violeta Bertolini (IFLA), with the support of\u00a0Sueli Mara Soares Pinto Ferreira (IFLA Governing Board Member\/FEBAB, Brazil) to connect with other civil society organisations and ensure the need for meaningful access to information is considered throughout the event as a key element for sustainable development. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-498\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.ifla.org\/lpa\/files\/2018\/04\/eclac-forum-side-delegation-297x300.jpg\" alt=\"IFLA delegation at the Forum\" width=\"297\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blogs.ifla.org\/lpa\/files\/2018\/04\/eclac-forum-side-delegation-297x300.jpg 297w, https:\/\/blogs.ifla.org\/lpa\/files\/2018\/04\/eclac-forum-side-delegation-768x776.jpg 768w, https:\/\/blogs.ifla.org\/lpa\/files\/2018\/04\/eclac-forum-side-delegation-1013x1024.jpg 1013w, https:\/\/blogs.ifla.org\/lpa\/files\/2018\/04\/eclac-forum-side-delegation.jpg 1266w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 297px) 100vw, 297px\" \/>As a few highlights: as a result of networking with fellow Brazilian civil society members, Adriana was invited to be involved in the <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/www.secretariadegoverno.gov.br\/noticias\/2017\/junho\/imbassahy-empossa-os-representantes-da-comissao-nacional-para-os-ods\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Comiss\u00e3o Nacional para os Objetivos de Desenvolvimento Sustent\u00e1vel (CNODS)<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> of Brazil. Moreover, the IFLA<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> the delegation had the opportunity to connect with Rosario Diaz Garavito, founder of <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/the.millennials.movement\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The Millennials Movement<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> and one of the <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/www.ngomg.org\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">UN NGO Major Group<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> Operating Partners for Latin America as well as Co Focal Point on Humanitarian Affairs for the LATAM region.
