{"id":927,"date":"2018-11-13T16:00:12","date_gmt":"2018-11-13T15:00:12","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.ifla.org\/lpa\/?p=927"},"modified":"2018-11-20T14:55:37","modified_gmt":"2018-11-20T13:55:37","slug":"the-igf-is-in-paris-come-and-join-us","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.ifla.org\/lpa\/2018\/11\/13\/the-igf-is-in-paris-come-and-join-us\/","title":{"rendered":"The IGF is in Paris &#8211; but you can join us from everywhere!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The 13th annual meeting of the Internet Governance Forum (<a title=\"Internet Governance Forum \" href=\"https:\/\/www.intgovforum.org\/multilingual\/lexicon\/8#IGF\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">IGF<\/a>) is taking place in Paris this year. The meeting is \u200ehosted by the Government of France at the Headquarters of UNESCO, and runs from 12 to \u200e\u200e14 November 2018.\u200e<\/p>\n<p>This year\u2019s session has more than a hundred sessions, including national, regional and youth IGF initiatives as well as seventeen \u200eDynamic Coalitions with inputs from communities and stakeholders. This multi-stakeholder approach, a key characteristic of the IGF, makes this an important opportunity to influence and shape public \u200ediscourse on internet governance themes and to discuss needed improvements. \u200e<\/p>\n<p>This year\u2019s gathering stresses the importance of creating an <i>Internet of Trust<\/i>. To achieve this goal, the IGF in looking at best practices \u200ein gender and access; cybersecurity; local content; AI, big data and the internet of things. \u200e<\/p>\n<p>IFLA is at the Internet Governance Forum in Paris to discuss the importance of public access in libraries. We will be part of two important events. The first is on the 13\u00a0November at the American Library in Paris, with more details available <a href=\"https:\/\/www.eventbrite.com\/e\/everyone-connected-a-comprehensive-strategy-for-universal-internet-access-tickets-51956426069\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">here<\/a>. It will highlight the importance of public access as a means of getting the remaining billions online, alongside other promising initiatives such as community networks, as previously discussed at the IFLA <a href=\"https:\/\/president2018.ifla.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">President\u2019s Meeting in Barcelona<\/a>, and offline internet.<\/p>\n<p>The second, on the 14 November takes place as part of the formal <a href=\"https:\/\/www.intgovforum.org\/multilingual\/content\/igf-2018-dc-public-access-in-libraries-a-policy-toolkit-for-public-access\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">IGF programme<\/a>. The session of the Dynamic Coalition on Public Access in Libraries in which IFLA plays a leading role will discuss and improve the toolkit on public access that IFLA has prepared for library associations.
