{"id":1259,"date":"2016-10-20T06:23:54","date_gmt":"2016-10-20T05:23:54","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.ifla.org\/public-libraries\/?p=1259"},"modified":"2016-10-20T06:33:19","modified_gmt":"2016-10-20T05:33:19","slug":"community-library-in-brazillian-legal-amazon","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.ifla.org\/public-libraries\/2016\/10\/20\/community-library-in-brazillian-legal-amazon\/","title":{"rendered":"Community Library in Brazillian Legal Amazon"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.ifla.org\/public-libraries\/files\/2015\/10\/IFLA_Adriana-Cybelle-Ferrari.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-888\" src=\"http:\/\/blogs.ifla.org\/public-libraries\/files\/2015\/10\/IFLA_Adriana-Cybelle-Ferrari-300x125.jpg\" alt=\"IFLA_Adriana-Cybelle-Ferrari\" width=\"300\" height=\"125\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Vaga Lume (Fireflies) Association supports libraries creation and promotes cultural exchange between rural communities in Brazilian Legal Amazon.<\/p>\n<p>Vaga Lume Association was born fifteen years ago and its objective is to improve book and reading access for the youth of 149 rural communities of 23 cities in Brazilian Legal Amazon, at the same time of local cultural appreciation.<\/p>\n<p>This project is given by Expedition Program which has three pillars in its methodology based in the encourage of local culture: the library structure donation that includes books, bookcase and mats ; the education of community volunteers as reading mediators that includes project promotion; and yet, the promotion of community library management, its maintenance and operation.<\/p>\n<p>All actions should be implemented together since they are complementary and stimulate the taste for reading in children and teenagers but also in adulthood. By the public incorporation in their daily, rural education improvement, in short and long term, is expected.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Some of the operation libraries: <\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Luz do Saber Library, Terra Nova Community, City of Barcelos (AM)<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.ifla.org\/public-libraries\/files\/2016\/10\/one.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-1260\" src=\"http:\/\/blogs.ifla.org\/public-libraries\/files\/2016\/10\/one-300x200.jpg\" alt=\"one\" width=\"300\" height=\"200\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blogs.ifla.org\/public-libraries\/files\/2016\/10\/one-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/blogs.ifla.org\/public-libraries\/files\/2016\/10\/one-768x512.jpg 768w, https:\/\/blogs.ifla.org\/public-libraries\/files\/2016\/10\/one-1024x682.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/blogs.ifla.org\/public-libraries\/files\/2016\/10\/one.jpg 1076w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong>Luz do Saber (Light of Knowledge) was the name chosen by local residents for the community library then called Vaga Lume and created in 2011 when the first reading mediators had their graduation. Its base was built in 2013 by the hands of Terra Nova (New Earth) Community residents and its made by wood, fenced and covered with straw, valuing its cultural elements.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Estrela da Manh\u00e3 Library, Cairara Community, City of Tef\u00e9 (AM)<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.ifla.org\/public-libraries\/files\/2016\/10\/two.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-1261\" src=\"http:\/\/blogs.ifla.org\/public-libraries\/files\/2016\/10\/two-300x200.jpg\" alt=\"two\" width=\"300\" height=\"200\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blogs.ifla.org\/public-libraries\/files\/2016\/10\/two-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/blogs.ifla.org\/public-libraries\/files\/2016\/10\/two-768x512.jpg 768w, https:\/\/blogs.ifla.org\/public-libraries\/files\/2016\/10\/two.jpg 955w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Estrela da Manh\u00e3 (Morning Star) Community Library is located next to Tef\u00e9 municipal school and on the Caiamb\u00e9 river. In the beginning it took place in the community\u2019s school classroom where reading mediations were done with the students. Its own base was built by the community under the leadership of a teacher called Marcio. As the people begun to feel part of the project they start to to run library\u2019s management activities.
