The population is about 38,000. The Library<\/span>\u00a0is\u00a0<span class=\"s4\">run by the Miyoshi <\/span><span class=\"s4\">L<\/span><span class=\"s4\">ocal <\/span><span class=\"s4\">Town G<\/span><span class=\"s4\">overnment.<\/span><span class=\"s4\"> The <\/span><span class=\"s4\">circulation per capita of Miyoshi Public Library<\/span><span class=\"s4\"> is 11.20 books per a user a year, compared to t<\/span><span class=\"s4\">he average number <\/span><span class=\"s4\">of Japanese public library of<\/span><span class=\"s4\">\u00a05.5. \u00a0And the library has maintained its<\/span><span class=\"s4\">\u00a0top rank <\/span><span class=\"s4\">in the past sixteen years.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"s4\">The reason for my \u00a0vis<\/span><span class=\"s4\">it to the library is because it<\/span><span class=\"s4\"> provide<\/span><span class=\"s4\">s<\/span><span class=\"s4\"> very good children<\/span><span class=\"s4\">\u2019<\/span><span class=\"s4\">s services.<\/span> <span class=\"s4\">The first\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"s4\">is the Book Start S<\/span><span class=\"s4\">ervice. \u00a0The <\/span><span class=\"s4\">second one<\/span><span class=\"s4\"> is Book Club S<\/span><span class=\"s4\">ervice<\/span><span class=\"s4\"> for the elementary level children<\/span><span class=\"s4\">.<\/span> <span class=\"s4\">A<\/span><span class=\"s4\">nd the third one <\/span><span class=\"s4\">is that <\/span><span class=\"s4\">library<\/span> <span class=\"s4\">provide<\/span><span class=\"s4\">s<\/span> <span class=\"s4\">good<\/span> <span class=\"s4\">support and have good <\/span><span class=\"s4\">relationship to the <\/span><span class=\"s4\">school<\/span><span class=\"s4\"> librar<\/span><span class=\"s4\">ies. \u00a0<\/span><span class=\"s4\">There are eight schools, five elementary schools and tree junior high schools<\/span><span class=\"s4\"> run by<\/span><span class=\"s4\"> the Miyoshi <\/span><span class=\"s4\">local <\/span><span class=\"s4\">Town<\/span><span class=\"s4\"> Government<\/span><span class=\"s4\">.<\/span><span class=\"s4\"> \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"s4\">The head Librarian, Tomoko Shirota, a children<\/span><span class=\"s4\">\u2019<\/span><span class=\"s4\">s service professional, and she especially emphasizes the children<\/span><span class=\"s4\">\u2019<\/span><span class=\"s4\">s services.<\/span> <span class=\"s4\">She said that during the child period<\/span><span class=\"s4\"> is very valuable time to <\/span><span class=\"s4\">child<\/span><span class=\"s4\"> get<\/span><span class=\"s4\">s<\/span><span class=\"s4\"> used to read.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"s3\"><span class=\"s4\"><a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.ifla.org\/public-libraries\/files\/2018\/04\/F6F8691F-B8D3-48F0-8AD5-ACCD78938444.jpeg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-1684\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.ifla.org\/public-libraries\/files\/2018\/04\/F6F8691F-B8D3-48F0-8AD5-ACCD78938444-300x265.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"265\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blogs.ifla.org\/public-libraries\/files\/2018\/04\/F6F8691F-B8D3-48F0-8AD5-ACCD78938444-300x265.jpeg 300w, https:\/\/blogs.ifla.org\/public-libraries\/files\/2018\/04\/F6F8691F-B8D3-48F0-8AD5-ACCD78938444-768x678.jpeg 768w, https:\/\/blogs.ifla.org\/public-libraries\/files\/2018\/04\/F6F8691F-B8D3-48F0-8AD5-ACCD78938444-1024x903.jpeg 1024w, https:\/\/blogs.ifla.org\/public-libraries\/files\/2018\/04\/F6F8691F-B8D3-48F0-8AD5-ACCD78938444.jpeg 1299w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a>&lt;<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.lib.miyoshi.saitama.jp\/libguide?13&amp;pid=29\"><span class=\"s5\">https:\/\/www.lib.miyoshi.saitama.jp\/libguide?13&amp;pid=29<\/span><\/a><span class=\"s4\">&gt;<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"s3\"><b><span class=\"s6\">Book Start<\/span><span class=\"s6\"> Service<\/span> <span class=\"s6\">&amp; Book Start Plus Service<\/span><\/b><\/p>\n<p class=\"s3\"><span class=\"s4\">In Miyoshi Public Library,<\/span><span class=\"s4\">\u00a0the<\/span><span class=\"s4\"> Book Start Service is targeted at babies four months and beyond. \u00a0The professional children<\/span><span class=\"s4\">\u2019<\/span><span class=\"s4\">s librarian reads the picture<\/span><span class=\"s4\"> book <\/span><span class=\"s4\">with parent and baby. <\/span><span class=\"s4\">And after the reading hour, the baby will <\/span><span class=\"s4\">be <\/span><span class=\"s4\">present<\/span><span class=\"s4\">ed<\/span><span class=\"s4\"> a picture book from the library. <\/span><span class=\"s4\">You can see<\/span><span class=\"s4\"> it in<\/span><span class=\"s4\"> the <\/span><span class=\"s4\">picture above\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"s4\">that<\/span>\u00a0when\u00a0<span class=\"s4\">Ms Tomoko Shirota <\/span><span class=\"s4\">reads the picture book to the four month<\/span><span class=\"s4\">s<\/span><span class=\"s4\"> old baby, the baby <\/span><span class=\"s4\">seems<\/span><span class=\"s4\"> very eager to look at <\/span><span class=\"s4\">the book and listen to <\/span><span class=\"s4\">the <\/span><span class=\"s4\">librarian<\/span><span class=\"s4\">\u2019<\/span><span class=\"s4\">s reading voice.<\/span><span class=\"s4\">. The <\/span><span class=\"s4\">L<\/span><span class=\"s4\">ibrarian said that it is very important to read the picture book <\/span><span class=\"s4\">attractively for the baby <\/span><span class=\"s4\">because maybe it is the first time <\/span><span class=\"s4\">for the baby <\/span><span class=\"s4\">to look <\/span><span class=\"s4\">at <\/span><span class=\"s4\">the book<\/span><span class=\"s4\"> and listen to the reading<\/span><span class=\"s4\"> voice.<\/span><span class=\"s4\"> \u00a0<\/span><span class=\"s4\">It is definitely important how<\/span><span class=\"s4\"> baby feel about the book reading hour<\/span><span class=\"s4\">. The librarian tr<\/span><span class=\"s4\">ies<\/span><span class=\"s4\"> to make the reading hour<\/span><span class=\"s4\"> attractive and<\/span><span class=\"s4\"> interesting<\/span>\u00a0<span class=\"s4\">b<\/span><span class=\"s4\">ecause t<\/span><span class=\"s4\">his is the first experience for <\/span><span class=\"s4\">not only the four month<\/span><span class=\"s4\">s<\/span> <span class=\"s4\">baby <\/span><span class=\"s4\">but<\/span><span class=\"s4\"> also for the parent<\/span><span class=\"s4\"> to listen to<\/span><span class=\"s4\"> the <\/span><span class=\"s4\">storytelling<\/span><span class=\"s4\">.<\/span> <span class=\"s4\">Through reading the <\/span><span class=\"s4\">picture <\/span><span class=\"s4\">book,\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"s4\">almost all <\/span><span class=\"s4\">baby ha<\/span><span class=\"s4\">ve<\/span><span class=\"s4\"> good reactions like smiling and <\/span><span class=\"s4\">speaking aloud. \u00a0Parent <\/span><span class=\"s4\">understands that<\/span><span class=\"s4\"> the baby who is not speaking <\/span><span class=\"s4\">language\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"s4\">yet, can understand<\/span><span class=\"s4\"> the picture book through<\/span><span class=\"s4\"> the baby<\/span><span class=\"s4\">\u2019<\/span><span class=\"s4\">s reaction and feeling,<\/span> <span class=\"s4\">The librarian said that<\/span><span class=\"s4\"> the Book Start Service<\/span><span class=\"s4\"> make<\/span><span class=\"s4\">s<\/span><span class=\"s4\"> the <\/span><span class=\"s4\">problem of <\/span><span class=\"s4\">child abuse <\/span><span class=\"s4\">in Miyoshi Town <\/span><span class=\"s4\">decrease\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"s4\">because <\/span><span class=\"s4\">through the reading <\/span><span class=\"s4\">the picture book<\/span> <span class=\"s4\">the parent can better\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"s4\">communicate <\/span><span class=\"s4\">to their <\/span><span class=\"s4\">baby.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"s3\"><span class=\"s4\">When the baby is two years old, the <\/span><span class=\"s4\">baby<\/span><span class=\"s4\"> have the<\/span><span class=\"s4\"> tooth examination by the doctor. \u00a0At that time it is also the time of<\/span><span class=\"s4\"> Book Start Plus S<\/span><span class=\"s4\">ervice. \u00a0A<\/span><span class=\"s4\">gain <\/span><span class=\"s4\">the baby and parent ha<\/span><span class=\"s4\">ve the picture book reading time<\/span><span class=\"s4\">\u00a0together and <\/span><span class=\"s4\">are <\/span><span class=\"s4\">present<\/span><span class=\"s4\">ed<\/span><span class=\"s4\">\u00a0with a picture book which\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"s4\">they will\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"s4\">enjoy.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>Book Club Services<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The Miyoshi Public Library organizes two Book Clubs for boys and girls.\u00a0 They are two groups by their age, one club for the first and second grades in elementary school.\u00a0 The name of the club is Kamii Club. Kamii comes from a hero\u2019s name in the most popular Japanese children\u2019s book;\u00a0 the second club is for children from the third to sixth grades, and is named Elmer Club.\u00a0 Its name comes from the book titled <em>My father\u2019s Dragon<\/em> written by Ruth Stiles Gannett. \u00a0The activities of the clubs are storytelling, book talk and reading from a selected book list.\u00a0 The activities run every fourth Saturday of the month.<\/p>\n<p><strong>School Libraries<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>There are eight schools in Miyoshi Town.\u00a0 Every school has the a school library and school librarians.\u00a0 School librarians try to make children familiar with reading books.\u00a0 They provide the booklist which is the books reading during elementary years.\u00a0 So after six years, students finished reading all the books on the book list.\u00a0 The Miyoshi Public Library and eight school libraries have not only the computer network but also the human relationship network.<\/p>\n<p><strong>The Miyoshi Book Reading Declaration<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.ifla.org\/public-libraries\/files\/2018\/04\/753BBC4E-86F4-40F8-B191-6336CF6C4D9B.jpeg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-1685\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.ifla.org\/public-libraries\/files\/2018\/04\/753BBC4E-86F4-40F8-B191-6336CF6C4D9B-205x300.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"205\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blogs.ifla.org\/public-libraries\/files\/2018\/04\/753BBC4E-86F4-40F8-B191-6336CF6C4D9B-205x300.jpeg 205w, https:\/\/blogs.ifla.org\/public-libraries\/files\/2018\/04\/753BBC4E-86F4-40F8-B191-6336CF6C4D9B-768x1123.jpeg 768w, https:\/\/blogs.ifla.org\/public-libraries\/files\/2018\/04\/753BBC4E-86F4-40F8-B191-6336CF6C4D9B-700x1024.jpeg 700w, https:\/\/blogs.ifla.org\/public-libraries\/files\/2018\/04\/753BBC4E-86F4-40F8-B191-6336CF6C4D9B.jpeg 1299w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 205px) 100vw, 205px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The Miyoshi Public Library declared that Miyoshi Town is the town that \u201cLove Reading and Promote lifelong reading all over the Town\u201d in April 2016.\u00a0 Ms Hideko Nagano who is a famous writer of picture books is the illustrator of the promotional poster for this Reading Declaration, and Ms Hiromi Watanabe who live in the Miyoshi Town, designed it.\u00a0 In the poster, it says that that the Library has decided that every 23<sup>rd <\/sup>\u00a0day of the month is \u201cthe Day to Love the Reading and a Reading Day\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>In Miyoshi Town, people from baby to senior love the reading and share the reading joy by reading together.\u00a0 Through reading together people can have closer relationships.
