{"id":251,"date":"2013-12-04T06:14:38","date_gmt":"2013-12-04T05:14:38","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.ifla.org\/public-libraries\/?p=251"},"modified":"2013-12-04T06:14:38","modified_gmt":"2013-12-04T05:14:38","slug":"libraries-as-media-call-for-papers","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.ifla.org\/public-libraries\/2013\/12\/04\/libraries-as-media-call-for-papers\/","title":{"rendered":"Libraries as Media &#8211; Call for Papers"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Our colleagues in the\u00a0\u00a0Management and Marketing Section are calling for papers for their Satellite Conference that will be held on 15 August 2014 at the Centre Georges Pompidou Paris, France.<\/p>\n<p>The theme is <em>Libraries as media; <\/em>how libraries can contribute to explain the world by through the production\u00a0and organisation of \u00a0information and media.<\/p>\n<p>The program is aimed at Academic and Public Libraries<\/p>\n<p>Libraries are producing content such as text, video, and digitized. In the process arguably becoming ?media.?\u00a0 This conference will explore this provocative and rapid transition libraries are within and directing, as they go from purveyors of media to producers. Illustrative examples of content are desired for furthering the topics below.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Topics of Interest<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Human Resources: who is participating on the staff and how are assignments blended in with other duties?<\/p>\n<p>Skills Needed:\u00a0 designated and driven by content or outcome?<\/p>\n<p>Editorial decisions:\u00a0 who makes these and what are the challenges?<\/p>\n<p>Social media:\u00a0 which online presence is related to content?<\/p>\n<p>Evaluation:\u00a0 how is the library adjudged for the content it produces?<\/p>\n<p>Copyright:\u00a0 can content be ?re-used? inside the library for differing purposes?<\/p>\n<p>Collaboration:\u00a0 what are optimal ways to connect Internet users and local communities (via content production)<\/p>\n<p>Libraries as media:\u00a0 how are we different than the media of television, radio, social or print?<\/p>\n<p><strong>Language<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Abstracts may be delivered in English or French. For presentation at the conference, Speakers may also be in English or French.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Proposals for Presentations<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The form (no more than 250 words), should be sent by 31 January 2014.<\/p>\n<p>The one page proposal should also include the name, contact information and institutional affiliation of the author as well as abstract. All proposals will be evaluated by a committee representing the section and supporting library professionals.
