{"id":606,"date":"2014-09-11T12:35:55","date_gmt":"2014-09-11T11:35:55","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.ifla.org\/public-libraries\/?p=606"},"modified":"2014-09-11T05:15:14","modified_gmt":"2014-09-11T04:15:14","slug":"creative-communities-a-new-australian-report","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.ifla.org\/public-libraries\/2014\/09\/11\/creative-communities-a-new-australian-report\/","title":{"rendered":"Creative Communities &#8211; a new Australian report"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em><a href=\"http:\/\/www.plvn.net.au\/sites\/default\/files\/Creative%20Communities%202014.pdf\">Creative Communities: the cultural benefits of Victoria&#8217;s Public Libraries <\/a><\/em>is the latest addition to the growing volume of work of the economic and social value of public libraries.<\/p>\n<p><em>Creative Communities<\/em> completes a trilogy of major research reports from the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.slv.vic.gov.au\/\">State Library of Victoria <\/a>(Australia)\u00a0and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.plvn.net.au\/\">Public Libraries Victoria Network<\/a> about the breadth, depth and impact on the whole community of services offered by the modern public library.<\/p>\n<p>While <a href=\"http:\/\/www.libraries.vic.gov.au\/downloads\/Libraries_Building_Communities__Online_Survey_Project\/report_1__statewide_analysis_and_comparisons.pdf\"><em>Libraries Building Communities<\/em> <\/a>(2005) and <em><a href=\"http:\/\/www.slv.vic.gov.au\/sites\/default\/files\/dollars-sense-public-libraries-summary-report_1.pdf\">Dollars, Sense and Public Libraries <\/a><\/em>(2011) focussed on the social contribution and economic value of public libraries, <em>Creative Communities<\/em> focusses on the cultural benefits that public libraries deliver to their communities.<\/p>\n<p>The report highlights the important (and often under recognised) range of activities undertaken by Victoria\u2019s public libraries that produce specifically cultural benefits, which community members may not otherwise access.<\/p>\n<p>The Public Libraries Section <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ifla.org\/node\/9011\">website<\/a> provides some useful links to a wide range of studies on the value of public libraries worldwide.
