{"id":12,"date":"2013-09-07T04:28:00","date_gmt":"2013-09-07T02:28:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.ifla.org\/school-libraries\/?p=12"},"modified":"2013-09-07T04:28:00","modified_gmt":"2013-09-07T02:28:00","slug":"canadian-childrens-books-award-finalists","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.ifla.org\/school-libraries\/2013\/09\/07\/canadian-childrens-books-award-finalists\/","title":{"rendered":"Canadian children&#8217;s books award finalists"},"content":{"rendered":"<p align=\"center\"><b>FINALISTS ANNOUNCED FOR 2013 CANADIAN CHILDREN\u2019S BOOK CENTRE AWARDS<\/p>\n<p><\/b><\/p>\n<p>The Canadian Children\u2019s Book Centre (CCBC) is pleased to announce the finalists for its seven major children\u2019s book awards:<\/p>\n<ul type=\"disc\">\n<li><b>TD Canadian Children\u2019s Literature Award\u00a0 <\/b>($30,000)<\/li>\n<li><b>Prix TD de litt\u00e9rature canadienne pour l\u2019enfance et la jeunesse\u00a0 <\/b>($30,000)<\/li>\n<li><b>Marilyn Baillie Picture Book Award\u00a0 <\/b>($20,000)<\/li>\n<li><b>Norma Fleck Award for Canadian Children\u2019s Non-Fiction\u00a0 <\/b>($10,000)<\/li>\n<li><b>Geoffrey Bilson Award for Historical Fiction for Young People\u00a0 <\/b>($5,000)<\/li>\n<li><b>John Spray Mystery Award<\/b>\u00a0 ($5,000)<\/li>\n<li><b>Monica Hughes Award for Science Fiction and Fantasy\u00a0 <\/b>($5,000)<b>\n<p><\/b><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The winners will be announced at the TD Canadian Children\u2019s Literature Awards and <strong>Prix TD de litt\u00e9rature canadienne pour l\u2019enfance et la jeunesse<\/strong> \u2013 two invitation-only gala events in Toronto on October 22 and Montreal on October 29. Overall, $130,000 in prize monies will be awarded. The nominated books exemplify some of the best work by Canadian authors and illustrators. The Canadian Children\u2019s Book Centre is proud to share these titles and the juries\u2019 notes.<\/p>\n<p>For the first time ever, TD is partnering with CBC Books to present the TD Canadian Children&#8217;s Literature<b> Fan Choice Award<\/b>. Young readers will be asked to pick their favourite book from the shortlisted TD Award titles in an online poll starting on Monday, September 9. The book with the most votes will win, and one lucky entrant will win a trip to Toronto to present the award at the gala ceremony on October 22.
