Kuhlthau, professor emerita in the School of Communication and<br \/>\nInformation at Rutgers University, is the 2013 recipient of the ASIS&amp;T Award<br \/>\nof Merit, the highest honor presented by ASIS&amp;T. The award goes to an<br \/>\nindividual who has made a noteworthy contribution to the field of<br \/>\ninformation science, including the expression of new ideas, the creation of<br \/>\nnew devices, the development of better techniques and outstanding service to<br \/>\nthe profession.<br \/>\nProfessor Kuhlthau is internationally recognized for her contributions to<br \/>\nthe study of information behavior. Her best-known work is her book Seeking<br \/>\nMeaning: A Process Approach to Library and Information Services. In her<br \/>\nrigorous research she observed student information seeking, developed a<br \/>\nmodel of the information search process, then tested the model in several<br \/>\nways over several studies to validate and refine the model. This model has<br \/>\nmotivated widespread current research interest in the affective components<br \/>\nof the information search process. In addition information professionals&#8217;<br \/>\npractice has been significantly influenced by her publications. Her life and<br \/>\nwork are models in several senses. Personally highly intelligent, judicious,<br \/>\nand modest, she has earned the highest respect from scholars and students in<br \/>\nthe field of information behavior as well as practitioners. Through example,<br \/>\nCarol Kuhlthau has taught many in the field how to do rigorous research, how<br \/>\nto mentor, and how to teach.<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Carol C.
